Giorgio Armani – Grandmother of a 16-Year-Old Murdered in Oklahoma City
The grandmother of a 16-year-old Oklahoma City teenager shot and killed in August has an important message for those responsible.
Cayetano Rivera Ordonez will wear a satin suit designed by Giorgio Armani during the Corrida Goyesca bullfight on September 6.
He has also designed uniforms for Italy’s Olympic and Paralympic teams.
Early Life and Education
Armani was born in Piacenza in 1934 and raised with his older brother Sergio and sister Rosanna by Maria Raimondi and Ugo. At secondary school in Milan’s Liceo Scientifico Leonardo da Vinci he began taking an interest in anatomy; originally intending to become a physician, Armani spent three years at University of Piacenza before leaving to join the army.
Armani has shown throughout his career that he is committed not only to fashion but also art. He has supported numerous art exhibitions over time and even assisted in organizing one: a New York exhibit that gave people access into Pier Paolo Pasolini’s mind.
While studying medicine at Liceo Scientifico Leonardo da Vinci, Armani initially intended to pursue that career. Instead, in 1957 he switched his plans and accepted employment with La Rinascente department store in Milan as window dresser and sales clerk – later going on to design menswear under Nino Cerruti company.
Giorgio Armani S.p.A was established with Galeotti in the late 1970s. They opened a design studio and signed licensing agreements with manufacturers before expanding their product lines, including shoes and eyeglasses.
Over time, he has grown his business while also creating bridges between fashion and art – for instance sponsoring an exhibition that explored Pier Paolo Pasolini’s life in New York.

Armani was an individual who lived his own life according to what brought him joy, living a full and joyful existence. His energy was contagious and he enjoyed dancing and singing – something which always warmed his heart immensely! Always greeting everyone with a warm smile, handshake or one of his signature bear hugs (he also deeply loved animals!), Armani had an affinity for Pittsburgh Steelers while caring deeply about animals as well. Armani will be sorely missed.

Armani is an active philanthropist who has supported several cultural projects. For instance, in 1990 he funded a New York showing of Pier Paolo Pasolini films. Additionally he is an avid sailor and owns a 200 ft yacht.
He counts Lady Gaga among his celebrity friends and designed costumes for her record-breaking Monster Ball and Born This Way tours in 2010. In 2008, he created one for Spanish bullfighter Cayetano Rivera Ordonez to wear in Ronda during Corrida Goyesco bullfights.
Armani Prive made history in 2007 by becoming the first luxury designer to broadcast his fashion collection live online via MSN and Cingular mobile phones, broadcasting live during its spring/summer show. Additionally, Armani has expanded his business into cosmetics, home furnishings, and consumer goods.
