Colton Cowell, a UH volleyball player, was welcomed back to the University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team on Tuesday. Cowell attended Maui’s King Kekaulike High School and was a walk-on to the men’s team. Now, he’s one of the program’s most decorated players and a fan favorite. We examine the journey of Cowell from a walk-on to becoming a national volleyball champion.

At age 17, Cowell earned a walk-on spot to the Rainbow Warriors’ volleyball team. He played sparingly during his freshman season and redshirted the following year. He played 28 matches in 2018 and was named All-American in 2020. In addition to securing a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team, Cowell was named to the second team AVCA All-American Team. Cowell will be competing as an outside hitter this season.
