Coyotes Community Ice Center
The Coyotes Community Ice Center
The Coyotes Community Ice Center will open in Mesa, Arizona in mid-October. This facility will be home to the Arizona Kachinas girls hockey program, and will serve as an official training facility for the Coyotes. Arizona now has nine ice sheets. The new rink will add another one. The rink is located at 3000 N. Mesa Boulevard in Mesa.
The ice surface is crisp and hard, and the boards can be repurposed. Goalies will have to work to make sure that the bounces from the boards are not uneven. It looks great, but the edges of the ice need to be smoothened and removed any bubbles. During the summer, the Coyotes will host camps and clinics for children of all levels. They will also have a community room and concessions.
It is a large investment to build ice rinks. But ice rinks are vital to growing the game in Arizona. Xavier Gutierrez, Coyotes president and CEO, identified building more sheets of ice as a crucial element in the development of the game in Arizona. In addition to Mesa, Tucson and Prescott Valley also have year-round ice. The greater Tucson metropolitan area is also served by the Gila River Arena.
