Richard Belzer passed away peacefully on February 19, 2023 in southern France at age 78. He leaves behind three spouses: Harlee McBride (third), Bree and Jessica (stepdaughters) as his sole survivors.
He was best-known for portraying John Munch on Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order; additionally he often served as a warm-up comedian on Saturday Night Live.
Early Life and Education
Belzer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to parents Charles and Frances Belzer and attended Dean Junior College for one year before dropping out and venturing full time into acting.
Early in his career, he made multiple appearances as a warm-up comedian on Saturday Night Live as well as several stage productions and music videos such as Mike + the Mechanics’ Taken In and Pat Benatar’s Le Bel Age.
He was married three times during his lifetime: first, to Gail Susan Ross in 1966 but divorced her six years later in 1972; next, Dalia Danoch but that ended two years later; finally Harlee McBride whom he married in 1985 and is survived by both herself and their two stepdaughters.
