Daniel Columbus, a Partner at Vorys, Passed Away on November 28, 2018
Daniel was passionate about both his work and those in his life, especially those closest to him. He enjoyed seeing them thrive while always striving for excellence – an expert business leader and deeply compassionate individual, he deeply cared about those close to him.
On ring camera footage obtained by police, a Central High School graduate can be seen conversing with the homeowner shortly before being shot dead.
Early Life and Education
Daniel Columbus passed away due to complications from diabetes on November 28, 2018 at Alice Foeller’s residence. He leaves behind Alice Foeller as his legal partner/wife; their two sons Noah and Michael; his family of choice John and Helen King’s two sons Paul and Charlie along with their spouses who considered him their nephew or niece; his men’s group; as well as friends.
He published over 150 scientific papers and books. His research focused on understanding how diet/ingredients interact with gut microbes to influence amino acid availability in growing pigs as well as understanding early-life nutrition’s effect on growth performance and health in this population.
Historians disagree as to where and the scope of his formal education. According to Ferdinand, his son, Ferdinand learned both reading and writing while at school as well as multiple languages besides.
Professional Career
Dan is a partner at Vorys’ Columbus office and an active member of its Labor and Employment Group. His extensive experience includes litigation related to ERISA, employment discrimination cases, wage and hour class actions and collective bargaining as well as traditional labor disputes.
He has represented numerous restaurant, retail and industrial tenants with regards to site selection, multi-parcel land assemblage, investment analysis, leasing agreements and development/redevelopment in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Additionally, he has worked extensively with developers/landlords such as DeVille Developments, ShopCore Berengaria Development Northstar Realty Schiff Properties Moment Development
He is an active volunteer in his community, serving on boards and committees of local organizations. In his free time he loves spending time with his family, friends and dogs as well as playing golf and participating in other sports activities such as football and rugby. Furthermore, he enjoys listening to music – being part of Columbus Symphony Orchestra is his passion!
Achievement and Honors
His achievements included receiving an outstanding student of the year award from Columbus State’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter and serving as an outstanding mentor for students at the university. Dan was driven to expand his understanding and share it with others.
He is an esteemed chemist with expertise in eliminating carcinogenic potential of insulin-based therapies for treating diabetes mellitus. Additionally, he serves as a Chemistry instructor at Columbus State and has published many articles in this field of chemistry.
Dan resides near Shawnee, Oklahoma with his wife and two sons. In his free time he enjoys golfing and bowling as hobbies, he is a member of St Benedict Catholic Church as well as Knights of Columbus; furthermore he loves animals, particularly his dogs!
Personal Life
Daniel was an avid sports fan, especially of Columbus Crew FC. Additionally, he enjoyed golfing and bowling. Daniel was an active member of St Benedict Catholic Church as well as Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he previously held positions with Absentee Shawnee Chief of Police as well as part-time work with Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Team.
He was well known as being generous with his time, enjoying spending it with his family. Joseph Columbus leaves behind his wife Mary; 3 children: Joseph Columbus, Andrea Columbus and Matthew Columbus; 5 grandchildren; step-children Kristi Hix Dennis Hix Brandon Marker Jarrod Marker Jodin Marker as well as many nieces and nephews to remember him by. In addition, he was a lifetime member of American Tang Soo Do martial arts organization holding 3rd degree black belt status.
Net Worth
Columbus founded his wealth management firm after graduating college. Since then, he has served the wealthiest business owners, executives and multi-generational families in Chicago with their portfolio management via alternative investments as well as planning strategies related to family offices, philanthropy giving, estate and gift tax issues and more.
He is a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Joseph Columbus, Andrea Columbus and Matthew Columbus are his children. Additionally he has stepchildren Kristi Hix, Brandon Marker and Jarrod Marker as stepchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He enjoyed golf and spending time with his wife and two dogs. He resided in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His funeral will take place on Saturday June 12th.
