Early Life and Education
Daniel was born and raised in Brazil. As a student at one of Brazil’s renowned traditional schools – Colegio de Sao Bento – Daniel flourished academically while learning a number of languages, excelling in multiple subjects and excelling academically.
He later joined MG Engineering of New York City as a mechanical and life safety consultant, where he assisted in designing sprinkler, fire alarm, mechanical, and other systems for multifamily and office buildings.
According to his brother, Dan has an exceptional gift for teaching. His brother describes him as being passionate about music and theatre and describes Dan as being an engaging professor for them in chemistry classes he teaches. Additionally, he loves reading encyclopedias!
Professional Career
Dan is an accomplished, knowledgeable lawyer with significant experience in corporate law matters such as mergers and acquisitions, venture capital fundings and securities regulatory law. He represents public and private companies across a range of industries such as financial institutions, hospitality, technology manufacturing medical pharmaceutical manufacturing and mining.
Dan is also one of the principal founders of Aptima, where he oversees multidisciplinary research projects that investigate decision-making performance, expertise development and human-system integration in large socio-technical systems. Dan has made significant contributions in these areas to enhance decision-making under uncertainty and risk by devising novel methods of improving decision making processes.
Dan has always had an interest in real estate and, together with Calvin Wong (named to D Magazine’s CEO Commercial Power Broker list in 2022 and president of CCIM North Texas Chapter), established Engvest Commercial Realty in 2022.
Achievement and Honors
Daniel quickly recognized his interest in research after arriving at Western State, joining a lab the same month he arrived on campus. Since then, he has taken part in multiple academic year research projects as well as REU internships; studying nanorobots in an environmental chamber like those used by computer companies for chip production.
Daniel was honored with the 2018 Sustainable Engineering Forum Student Paper Award from AIChE, presented to graduate students who publish papers that showcase results related to engineering and sustainability.
Daniel takes great pleasure in participating in hackathons. He has competed at multiple events and won his inaugural hackathon competition in 2017. Daniel’s team created an app designed to automate food storage and increase shelf-life.
Personal Life
Daniel Eng is involved with numerous charitable efforts in Dallas. These include membership with Texas Asian American Chamber of Commerce-Southwest and US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce-Dallas Chapter; in addition to serving on the Board of Directors at eXp Realty International Commercial Real Estate Firm.
Other than writing, he loves spending time with his family: son and daughter alike. Additionally, he’s an avid golfer and passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Engvest Commercial Realty was established by Daniel in Dallas. A Certified Commercial Investment Member brokerage firm, Engvest provides comprehensive real estate services. He was recently honored as part of D Magazine’s 2022 CEO Commercial Power Brokers list.

Eng, in addition to his professional career, is actively involved with his community through both time and money donations to charities. He serves on the board of Demelza Children’s Hospice as well as working closely with The Trevor Project which offers support services for LGBTQ young people.
Golfing and travel are his two passions in his free time, which he shares with Toyosi Phillips (married since 2017 and father to two children) while they reside in Dallas, Texas.
