Daniel Goff

Daniel Goff served as a free person of color in the Revolutionary War and saw action at Valley Forge and Monmouth. He died in Boone County Kentucky in 1843.

Goff submitted his petition for reinstatement after six months, subject to the appointment of a practice monitor and implementation of prophylactic safeguards for his law office management. Unfortunately, both entities denied it.

Early Life and Education

Daniel Goff graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Exercise and sport science, along with being certified as both a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Functional Strength Coach. Today he runs Goff Performance to assist individuals meet their fitness goals – be they competitive athletes training to compete on higher levels, or parents trying to keep up with their kids on playgrounds.

Goff was among a group of free African Americans who fought in the American Revolutionary War, wintering at Valley Forge and fighting at Monmouth according to Hillary Delaney, local history associate of Boone County Library. Goff died in 1843. A marker was dedicated in his honor on Saturday; afterwards participants lined up to receive the flag that would normally have gone to one of his family members at his military funeral service.

Professional Career

Goff brings with him an impressive range of professional experience. He has worked for various high technology companies, manufacturers, financial institutions, venture capital firms and non-profit organizations – as well as being adept with employee benefit plans and international tax issues.

He was selected in the first-round by Los Angeles Rams as a first-round draft choice in 2016. Since then, he has led them to three consecutive playoff appearances and two NFC West titles as well as earning two Pro Bowl selections.

Fantasy owners have often doubted Goff’s ability to read defenses in the NFL due to his limited rushing production and failure to regularly surpass 108 yards per game. That may change in 2019; his offensive line has improved and he will now partner with top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Achievement and Honors

Goff is a two-time SEC captain, as well as one of the league’s premier linebackers. Nominated for both the Nagurski and Bednarik awards this season, Goff also leads in his community by working with students to design clothing that raises funds for college scholarships.

On a warm Saturday afternoon in rural Boone County, members of the library and local chapters of Daughters of the American Revolution and Simon Kenton Sons of the American Revolution united to dedicate a marker honoring Daniel Goff, an African-American who served in Virginia militia during Revolutionary War battles such as Valley Forge and Monmouth. To kickstart proceedings of this ceremony was read a letter from Sen. Mitch McConnell’s staff.

Personal Life

Daniel was full of energy and always ready for a challenge. He enjoyed playing games, riding his ATV and eating patty melts; always ready to assist in family chores; an invaluable friend he will be missed by all.

Daniel Goff was born to free African American parents in Chesterfield County, Virginia in June 1754 and served under General George Washington at Valley Forge and Monmouth during the Revolutionary War. Later he lived and farmed in Boone County Kentucky before eventually dying at Marshall Cemetery in 1843 with a pension to show for his service – his family also honored his life and service by placing a marker to mark it all.
