Ybarra was raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools before serving as an alter server. Growing up swimming and playing in the water led him to join the U.S. Air Force where he served both faithfully and honorably for more than 15 years.
Now Ybarra works for Dallas ISD where he serves as supervisor in their Operations Services Division and leads 21 ground employees. He finds great pleasure in helping his peers while inspiring his team members to feel proud of what they accomplish each day.
His criteria for selecting youths to go on the Stony Knoll trip include their progress, sobriety and how he believes they will perform with others. He travels to rural Kake Alaska where they don’t stay in hotels but rather sleep on the ground or their cars overnight.

Achievement and Honors
Daniel Ybarra of the University of Utah was one of three recipients to win a Fulbright scholarship this year, Zoe Diener and Kevin Priest also receiving this prestigious award. Diener will conduct research into public health in Namibia while Priest will teach English classes both there and Greece.
At Vista Murrieta High School, Ybarra also competed in track and field. He earned four All-Southwestern League running back awards as well as two state champion titles in 3200 meters running back events, setting personal best times of 9:45 for mile running and 16:30 for three mile cross country events.
Erica and Daniel Ybarra will serve as pallbearers. Erica will act as his pallbearer.

She now attends CSUSM for her studies while being part of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel Texas as an accordionist – one of only a handful of women involved in conjunto music!
