Early Life and Education

Early childhood is a critical period in the development of physical, social and emotional skills. The education a child receives during this period can have an immense effect on their future success.

In the first eight years of a child’s life, their brain develops most rapidly. A strong foundation can help ensure they have the capacity for learning, behaviors and health needed to excel both academically and in later life.

UNESCO has described this period of rapid development as “the most critical window of opportunity for learning” and believes it to be one of the best investments a country can make in the future. This brief provides an introduction to some of the research connecting early experiences to children’s future learning capacity, behaviors, physical health, and mental wellbeing.
