A standout defensive player, he led the Big Ten in caused turnovers during his junior season and was twice named an Academic All-Big Ten selection. Most recently, Rexrode was recognized for leading Syracuse to their most successful team ever: “Scarlet Knights”.
At the Associated Press Sports Editors’ winter conference, The Tennessean sports staff won several awards – including three individual Top 10 honorees (Mike Organ for Breaking News Reporting, Dave Ammenheuser for Explanatory Reporting and Joe Rexrode for Column Writing). Furthermore, APAC Improv Troupe took home the most coveted award of the night which was judged by student judges.

Dave Rexrode (’01) is the Executive Director of the Virginia Republican Party and former deputy campaign manager for Governor Bob McDonnell. Additionally, he served as national coalitions director for RNC and campaign manager for Congressman Bob Goodlatte. With a bachelor of science degree in political science and public administration from James Madison University, Rexrode holds memberships on both JMU Alumni Association’s Board of Directors as well as being an active Duke Club participant.
On Thursday, He was named RGA executive director and met with POLITICO to discuss their plans for the upcoming election cycle, why Republicans are eager to run in Montana and North Carolina in 2020, as well as the state of play in three states with gubernatorial races this year.
