David Sharon
David Sharon, former Israeli Prime Minister and major figure in the peace process, is widely admired for his profound impact on global culture. Through Jivamukti Yoga, he has illuminated yoga’s deeper esoteric truths, connected them to contemporary lifestyle and encouraged practitioners to let go of what they think they know and embark upon the path of self-knowledge this lifetime.
Early Life and Education
Sharon’s early life in Palestine was not easy. He and his family were forced to flee their home after the 1948 War of Independence, and he was imprisoned for a time.
He eventually returned to his family’s moshav and lived there until 1973 when he moved to Israel. There, he dedicated his life to raising sheep and horses at Sycamore Farm in Northern Negev.
His greatest contribution is credited with reversing the course of events during Yom Kippur War 1973 and leading to peace with Egypt. As a result, he has been dubbed “the father of modern Israel” and seen by many as an inspiring role model for Israelis.
His success as a military leader was founded on his nave belief that he had been chosen to save Israel. He lacked the capacity to ask himself “What is the Arab side thinking and planning?” And, he failed to consider how his decisions would impact both Israelis and Palestinians alike.
Professional Career
David Sharon has been in the communications business for more than 25 years, offering clients his extensive expertise on executive presence, corporate strategy, capital markets and board relations to maximize value and build credibility throughout every stage of their communications journey.
He serves as a strategic advisor to public and private companies at all stages of development. Additionally, he provides advice on securities law matters, exchange-listing standards and general corporate matters.
Sharon boasts an extensive background in data privacy and cybersecurity transactions. This includes negotiating and drafting outsourcing and technology contracts, licensing arrangements, as well as strategic IT and commercial agreements.
Achievements and Honors
David Sharon was a highly decorated war veteran who earned numerous awards. Additionally, he held several esteemed positions within the military.
He began as an infantry brigade commander and ultimately rose to become a general. During the 1973 Yom Kippur War, he served in Israel’s army and crossed over the Suez Canal to cut off Egyptian supplies.
His division, however, was in danger and he was forced to retreat. A military tribunal later determined that he had done what was necessary in order to safeguard Israeli soldiers and civilians’ lives.
At Temple Sinai of Sharon, he was honored for his contributions to the congregation with an Unsung Heroes/Heroines and Lifetime Achievement Award. More than 160 guests packed Social Hall for the Second Annual Reception which featured Massachusetts State Treasurer Steve Grossman discussing his own experiences with Jewish community service.
Personal Life
David Sharon was born on February 26th 1928 in Kfar Malal, an agricultural moshav (small town or settlement) of Mandatory Palestine. His parents, Shmuel Scheinerman and Vera Scheinerman – both Jewish immigrants from Russia – raised him with love and care.
He was an esteemed Israeli military leader and politician, serving as leader of both Likud from 1999 to 2005 and centrist Kadima (Forward) party since 2005.
As Israel’s defense minister in 1982, he presided over the bloody and controversial invasion of Lebanon that he was widely blamed for. As such, he remains one of Israel’s most divisive political figures to this day.
Master tactician and MacArthur-like strategist, he led Israel through its daring crossing of the Suez Canal in 1973 that turned the war in its favor. Known for his impatient disposition with colleagues, he was as uncompromising on military matters as political ones.
