Early Life and Education
Deedgra Lucas was born in Washington D.C. to John and Blondola Lucas; his father served as principal at Hillside High School in Durham and led its desegregation movement; while his mother taught junior high. Lucas is the younger of two siblings with an older brother named John and sister Tarvia.
As part of his senior season at University of Maryland, he earned first team All American recognition along with teammate Len Elmore. That season was marked by an outstanding 23-5 record and victory in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Later, he joined Bellaire High School in Houston, Texas where he played alongside future NBA stars like Emeka Okafor and Lawrence Roberts. From there he continued his basketball journey at Baylor and Oklahoma State before leading OSU all the way to its first Final Four appearance ever in 2004.
Professional Career
Lucas has spent his career playing on multiple teams. Beginning his career at Bellaire High School in Houston where he earned recognition as a McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic selection; leading them to three district titles as captain.
He later moved on to the NBA where he has played for Washington Bullets, San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks, and Seattle Super Sonics – as well as with Shanghai Sharks of China Basketball Association (CBA).
He has not only enjoyed a distinguished professional basketball playing career but has also become an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers as well as founding and running drug rehabilitation programs for athletes. Most recently he joined Minnesota Timberwolves as player development coach.
Personal Life
He is married and has two children. He prefers keeping a low profile and never speaks about his personal life. However, as an outstanding player with an incredible fan base he has achieved so much throughout his life and is still hard at work today.
He has initiated programs to assist other athletes recovering from drug issues. Furthermore, he serves as an incredible mentor for his players and boasts an exceptional coaching record.
Lucas was born in Durham, North Carolina to John and Blondola Lucas.
