A man accused of abducting and assaulting his former flame outside an Oak Lawn nursing home and beating and biting her has been sentenced to prison, as well as ordered to undergo drug treatment.

Early Life and Education

Dejuan Thomas hails from Paducah, Kentucky where he attended Paducah Tilghman High School where he played basketball as part of the Western Central Athletic Conference Championship team. Additionally, Dejuan studied business management at Coppin State University.

DeJuan Thomas was shot to death early Saturday outside Partner’s Jazz Lounge on Oak Hill Avenue and taken for treatment before dying shortly thereafter at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Previously charged with aggravated murder in 2012 for another killing, DeJuan was facing aggravated murder charges when he was shot to death early Saturday outside Partner’s Jazz Lounge on Oak Hill Avenue.

DeJuan Thomas Yelverton of Topeka who used his gun in the shooting death of 13-year-old girl has been sentenced to 86 months in prison. Yelverton entered a plea agreement of voluntary manslaughter with Shawnee County District Court, in exchange for reduced charges of criminal possession of weapon by felon.

Professional Career

DeJuan Thomas has had an illustrious professional career. From basketball player, TV personality, talk show host and cinematographer he has established himself in multiple capacities. Additionally, DeJuan is active in politics as an engaged leader ready to represent Paducah residents.

Thomas was an impressive high school athlete. His 3,018 points ranked third all-time in Indiana high school boys’ basketball history and earned him first team All-State recognition.

He played college basketball for Ohio State Buckeyes. At Ohio State, he was an invaluable member of their squad; earning two All-Tournament team spots while averaging 9.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game – not to mention being selected to represent USA at 2011 Pan American Games!

Achievement and Honors

Thomas became only the third player in state history to reach 3,000 points in one season at Bishop Luers and led both scoring and rebounding while being selected as first-team Indiana All-State selection.

On the week of June 2022, Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay filed murder charges against the owner and keeper of the handgun used to murder 13-year-old DaMya Hudnall, including first-degree felony murder and criminal possession by an individual who is an active felon.

De Juan is the Founder and Director of ForSight Labs, an ophthalmic incubator company with 12 developed products. Additionally, he holds the Jean Kelly Stock Distinguished Professorship in Ophthalmology at University of California San Francisco, co-authoring over 250 peer reviewed publications and textbooks while possessing 150 US Patents/Patent Applications Pending.

Personal Life

He was an active member of Christ Center Church and Valley Foods/City Car Wash employee for many years. Additionally, he loved attending Dallas Cowboys games while enjoying old and new school music, fixing cars, and video gaming.

He resided in Paducah, Kentucky and attended Paducah Tilghman High School. He was an outstanding leader and highly accomplished professional who had an expansive range of knowledge. His passion lay in helping those in need; he became well-known throughout his community as a talk show host, businessman, politician as well as active volunteer. Additionally, he was known to his friends as being loving husband who supported them at every turn – his loss will be deeply felt.
