Brian Stokes Mitchell Pays Tribute to Duke Ellington

The actor and producer has been making waves for years. His career has spanned television, film, and stage. In fact, he has starred in more than twenty albums. He even recorded a song to benefit the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. Stokes has also won several awards for his artistic and charitable work. He was recently inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.

Brian Stokes Mitchell grew up listening to jazz music and gravitated to the sound of jazz musicians. He even named his son Ellington. Now, he pays tribute to Duke Ellington with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. The concert is part of Strathmore’s Discover Ellington festival.

Brian Stokes Mitchell was born in Seattle, Washington, USA. He is of African descent and is a Scorpio. He is an actor and a singer, and has been a mainstay on Broadway since the 1990s. His role in Kiss Me, Kate earned him the 2000 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. His acting talents have earned him a large fan base. Mitchell is currently 62 years old and still proving to be a versatile artist.

Mitchell’s career has led him to numerous leading man roles on Broadway, including a role as Jethro in the 1998 animated film. In addition to this, he has starred as King Hedley II, Don Quixote, and Fred Graham in the 2000 musical Kiss Me, Kate. Mitchell has also won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical.

Mitchell’s ‘untitled’ show is a mash-up of theater hits and jazz songs. This is the result of a mixture of audience requests and personal preferences. Some of the tracks are original and have been arranged for the show. Amid the untitled pieces, Mitchell blends his style and phrasing. His famous long notes are not present until the end of the show. In between, he adds Cole Porter’s “Love For Sale” as a mid-tempo swing.

Mitchell is married and has a son named Ellington. He is also the father of Allyson Tucker, a performer and actress. Her appearances include Man of La Mancha and Chita Rivera. In addition, she has also appeared in several movies. And while she has been known to play an actor, she is also a dancer.

In the 1980s, Mitchell made his mark on television. He was a guest star on Roots: The Next Generations and also played Dr. Justin ‘Jackpot’ Jackson in Trapper John, M.D. He later went on to become a celebrity panelist on shows like $100,000 Pyramid and $25,000 Pyramid. He also had recurring roles on the hit television show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” He also supplied the singing voice of Jethro in The Prince of Egypt (1998).

Although his career has been in the spotlight for a long time, he has continued to serve the community. He has volunteered with organizations like the USO and March of Dimes and he has served as Chairman of the Actor’s Fund since 2004. He is also a founding member of Black Theatre United. As a result of his efforts to advance the arts, he has also been honored by the city of New York with the Key to the City.
