Early Life and Education
Jerry Daniel was born August 8, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana and enjoyed spending his free time listening to jazz music, bidding whiz games and basketball games. Additionally he enjoyed traveling.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, then pursued higher education through the GI Bill. Using this path he graduated from both Central Michigan University and Wayne State University – dedicating both himself and his career as a teacher to learning and sharing what they had learned with others.
His artwork has been shown and collected across the U.S. as well as Germany and Austria, earning numerous exhibitions. Jerry Daniel was an accomplished attorney with experience handling both civil and criminal matters. Specializing in criminal trial law, Jerry represented defendants charged with crimes such as murder, RICO actions, drug offenses and white collar crime both at state and federal levels.
He appeared in various action and martial arts films, such as Teddy Page’s Final Reprisal and Costas Mandylor and Isako Washio’s Fist of the North Star jungle adventure; additionally he played Skin Traffik as its titular hitman.
He loved spending time with his family, sharing laughs (especially his deep baritone laugh), playing bid whiz with friends and playing basketball with them – and will be greatly missed.

Jerry Daniel’s sculpture has been shown across the country, and held in both public and private collections. Additionally, he belongs to multiple professional art organizations.
Daniel lived his life to its fullest and enjoyed helping others. “He showed utmost respect for his clients, whether advocating on their behalf or serving as judge,” according to his family spokesman.
He was one of the founding members of Earls of Leicester and longtime member of Alison Krauss and Union Station with whom he won multiple Grammy awards. Additionally, he collaborated with John Hiatt, Maura O’Connell, Del McCoury Band and Boone Creek and earned multiple dobro and lap-steel playing awards over his 40 year music career. Known as “dobro’s matchless contemporary master”, his musical legacy spans four decades and more than four decades in totality.
Jerry was well known for his big personality and authentic ability to connect with others, endearing himself to clients, colleagues, friends, and family alike. He lived life to its fullest extent while taking every opportunity he could to learn new things and meet new people.
He is a member of the Texas Sculpture Association and has been commissioned to produce several sculptures for Hall Office Park in Frisco, Texas. Additionally, his works have been showcased throughout America and Europe.
Charlie Fuqua and Bernie Mackey formed the original band Three Spades in Indianapolis in 1929, playing on local radio stations before later touring Cincinnati and WLW before disbanding in 1938. Valerie and he were married for 25 years before having one son, Isaac.
