John Baier is an accomplished insurance professional who began his career as an agent with New York Life Insurance Company. Additionally, he served as President of GAMA International – the association for field leaders within the insurance industry – from 2000 until his retirement.

As a full-service realtor, John understands that relationships with clients don’t end when the sale is closed – they continue long after. He loves getting his hands dirty helping with dump runs or felling trees (not to mention creating delicious meals in his kitchen!), sharing his enthusiasm for home construction and making sure clients always have their projects taken care of.

Early Life and Education

John Griffith Bair was born on December 4, 1858 at Gerrardstown in Berkeley county, Virginia to William and Eleanor Virginia (Griffith) Bair.

His father was a blacksmith and his mother an reenactor of history. They married in 1855, with him being the third child born into this union.

He received his education through school and college, before going on to law school at the University of Indiana. Admitted to the bar in 1889, he has maintained a legal practice ever since.

He and his wife Mary had two daughters: Marguerite and Alberta. For a while they lived in Portland, Oregon and enjoyed collecting antiques and art.

John Baier boasts over three decades of experience in the insurance industry, holding various roles such as managing partner and general manager.

He has been with New York Life since 1970 and is currently the Managing Partner of their New Jersey General Office. Additionally, he serves as President of GAMA International – a professional association that fosters leadership development among field leaders within financial services industry.

John Baier has been named a 2013 inductee into the General Agents and Managers Association International Management Hall of Fame, an honor which honors individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their field through sustained growth and development. A graduate of Seton Hall University, Baier holds several professional designations such as CLU, ChFC, CFP, and CLF.

John Baier was a highly esteemed professor at Louisiana State University who earned numerous honors throughout his career.

He authored or edited numerous books, as well as producing several plays such as “Father Chief Justice: Edward Douglass White and the Constitution.”

Furthermore, he holds memberships on numerous boards and commissions such as the President’s Council of the National Wildlife Federation and the Conservation Leadership Council sponsored by the Environmental Defense Fund.
