Danielson was a member of Ring of Honor for over 15 years. He also competed in independent wrestling promotions.
He was known for his signature submission holds, such as the Cattle Mutilation and the Sliding Armbar. He has cited several wrestlers as influences on his style, including Toshiaki Kawada, Mitsuharu Misawa and William Regal.
During his time in ROH, Danielson developed a rivalry with Chris Hero of Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW). Their feud began in 2006 and escalated until it reached a climax at ROH’s Hell Freezes Over event.
He was also a member of WWE’s NXT. He made his first appearance on the show on May 10 and won a handicap match against Santino Marella. He was then eliminated from the show. He fought Michael Cole and The Miz in subsequent NXT matches.

He later returned to help U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan by serving as a peer reviewer in all four of the landmark Race to the Top state and district competitions.
