Early Life and Education
John Dehm has a lot of experience working with young people, as he attended junior boarding school at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, New Hampshire and high school at Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. He also worked as a youth officer with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office for 37 years.
He is a graduate of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He later moved to Batavia, New York, where he met his wife Teresa and settled in the community. He enjoyed biking a few miles each day and playing cribbage at the senior center. He is also a volunteer for the Red Cross. He is survived by his wife Anita, daughters Tonya Everley and Tanza Hadd of Olathe, Kansas; Tambee Thurlo and husband Duane of Paola, Kansas; mother Virginia Dehm of Green City, Missouri; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Professional Career
Dehm has a diverse career in education. He has a unique skill set in designing and deploying technological infrastructure to support instruction while also supporting administrative computing.
He has a long history of developing and executing innovative solutions that improve student performance in the classroom. This includes creating a campus wide program to open doors for underrepresented students to advanced placement and honors programs.
His research focuses on the role of the androgen receptor (AR) and alterations in AR signaling in prostate cancer development and progression. He is currently working to understand how these changes in AR signaling can lead to therapy-resistant metastatic disease. The resulting information can help physicians and patients develop new strategies to reduce the incidence of this potentially life-threatening disease.
Personal Life
John was born in 1951 in Ossining, NY and passed away on September 16, 2022. He is survived by his wife Patti, his daughters Ami Qualls (Ben), Kristi-Anne Covert (Chris), and Kendra Dehm (Blaine Matte); his grandchildren Elliott, Jameson, Myles, Graham, and Everest; as well as extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Clemens Dehm. He is survived by his wife Anita Rouse; his three daughters Tonya Everley of Olathe, KS, Tanza Hadd of Paola, KS, Tambee Thurlo of Hillsdale, KS; mother Virginia Dehm of Green City, MO; brother Mike Dehm of Green City, MO; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
