John Gainey has been an anesthesiologist in practice for more than two decades, with affiliations at multiple hospitals throughout the region.

He provides patients with general anesthesia, sedation, and regional anesthesia.

He is a Medical Anesthesia Consultant in Walnut Creek, with an office at 2175 N California Blvd, Ste 425.

Early Life and Education

Gainey was raised on a farm in Clinton township, Rock county. He attended school briefly before purchasing land to farm for himself.

Gainey was a young man when his father began farming corn and beans on their farm. After graduating high school, Gainey continued on to college where he earned his bachelor’s degree from Mount Olive College.

He joined the URA in 2001, serving as vice chair for several years before being reappointed to that post earlier this year. According to his campaign, he has remained committed to the agency’s development priorities.

However, Gainey’s mailer suggests he has not put forward policies to reduce inequities on both sides of the city-URA divide. These views are shared by union group Good Jobs Pittsburgh, which counts Sam Williamson – chair of URA’s board – among its local officers.

Professional Career

Gainey boasts a PGA Tour victory and more than $5.6 million in career earnings, but was arrested on Sunday in Florida on suspicion of involvement in prostitution and human trafficking stings. He now faces a first-degree misdemeanor solicitation charge.

He has served as assistant coach at Appalachian State and Elon University, as well as being on Sidney Lowe’s staff at NC State for three seasons.

He holds one PGA Tour victory and was ranked as high as 83rd in the world rankings in 2011. On the Korn Ferry Tour, he won The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic, earning him his first professional golf title since 2012.

Gainey graduated from William Peace University with a degree in political science and global studies. Here, she acquired the necessary foundational skills to pursue her ambition of becoming a U.S. Foreign Service Consular Officer.

Gainey is a military veteran who served in command as the 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery. His professional military education includes Air Defense Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Senior Service College, as well as Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security.

Gainey has achieved great success in both military and sports. He was four-time winner of the Selke Trophy, given annually to NHL’s best defensive forward; plus, he was a four-time Stanley Cup champion with Montreal Canadiens.

He will be missed by his loving wife Elizabeth Gainey; daughter Beth Carlton; son Brad Gainey; grandchildren Sarah Streichert (Kristopher), Adam Carlton (Bri), Lori Carlton (Joshua), Jamie Hardin and Emily Gainey; as well as many great-grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by his sister Linda Gainey who passed away recently.
