Early Life and Education
As an interesting relic of the past, the Hermosa Elementary School has served students for nearly a century. The school opened in 1889, and its location – just four miles from Council Oak – has always been a focal point in the community. It was also a site of many significant events.
One such event occurred in 1987, when the Hermosa Beach Historical Society was formed. At the time, the society had 240 founding members. After the founding parade, the organization held a presentation. This included video footage of the parade and the founding of the school. The presentation was well attended by notable community members.
Over the years, the Hermosa Beach Historical Society has expanded and has become more involved with the local community. They have hosted several educational lectures and tours, and have also helped preserve 10 public murals. In addition, they are applying for museum accreditation in 2021.
