John Lambeth is the founder of Civitas Consulting, an organization dedicated to creating tourism improvement districts around the world. In his career he has created more than 125 such districts.

He is the executive director of a business improvement district in California, which was one of the first of its kind in America. Additionally, his expertise extends to property-based improvement districts as well.

Early Life and Education

John Walter Lambeth, a renowned furniture manufacturer, banker and civic leader was born in Fair Grove community two miles south of Thomasville as the sixth child of David T. and Caroline Eliza Simmons Lambeth.

In the early nineteenth century, his father and grandfather had relocated from Guilford County to Fair Grove and adopted a novel method of farming. This strategy proved highly successful for them.

He received his education at I. L. Wright’s Academy at Fair Grove and later Trinity College, located seven miles away from his father’s farm. As a member of the local athletic club, he demonstrated great athletic ability as well as intense competition in other activities.

Lambeth, a bright and resourceful individual, was instrumental in Thomasville’s transition from small town to industrial hub.
