Early Life and Education
Leigh Middleton is an American businessperson and philanthropist whose contributions to Philadelphia community are extensive. She is married to John Middleton, principal owner and managing partner of Major League Baseball (MLB) Philadelphia Phillies franchise.
Leigh and John received The Philadelphia Award in 2014 for their efforts in ending homelessness, education, workforce development and medical research in Philadelphia. Additionally, they donated $100K to the Eagles Autism Challenge in 2019.
Leigh has established herself in Philadelphia despite being from a humble upbringing through her business acumen and generous philanthropy. She currently sits on the boards of directors for multiple Philadelphia companies such as Shipley School and John Middleton Inc, while consulting for prominent law firms such as Blank Rome, Schnader Harrison and Cozen O’Connor.
Middleton’s charitable contributions include Project HOME (an innovative public private partnership to reduce homelessness in Philadelphia), Amherst College, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Teach for America. Furthermore, they have funded comprehensive research at Penn Medicine into addiction disorders, depressive disorders and neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
At Ole Miss from 1999-03, Nichols served as an assistant coach with tight ends and running backs as well as being known for helping Jonathan Nichols be recognized with the Lou Groza Award as national placekicker after booting all 45 of his field goal attempts that year.
Bryanston Country Club’s Head Teaching Professional, Mark Thompson, has been a PGA member for 18 years and champions golf development initiatives, such as GIGS (Girls Introduce Golf System).
Achievement and Honors
Leigh Middleton has held positions on many boards, such as the Women’s Committee for the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia Antique Show, and Academy of Music. Additionally, she and John have both been deeply engaged with philanthropy with an emphasis on education, homelessness reduction and medical research.
Middleton has been active in her community. She served on Stroudsburg High School’s homecoming float committee all four years and participates in Girls Varsity Association, Concert Choir, French Club and Future Business Leaders of America – winning multiple awards such as Russell C. Hughes Monroe County Spelling Bee and Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science awards.
Gwynedd Mercy University will present Middleton with an honorary degree during their 2022 graduation and undergraduate commencement ceremonies on May 14, beginning at 2 p.m.
Leigh Middleton and John have been in a marriage for more than 20 years and share two children together. Leigh lives a very private lifestyle, keeping much of her personal life hidden from public view.

His family founded John Middleton Company which began as a tobacco shop in Philadelphia 1856 before eventually selling for over $2.9 billion to Altria Group in 2007.
