Guerin knew he needed to make an immediate difference after receiving Leipold’s call, so he began by signing Boldy and other minor-league players.
His daughter Lexi currently plays junior hockey for the Wayzata Ice Wolves and has scored two points in 21 games this season, to the delight of her parents. They are extremely proud of Lexi’s accomplishments.
Early Life and Education
Guerin comes from a family that values service and higher education, earning his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Hamlin University. After graduation he worked as marketing manager for EOS-Ventures and FloDesign Wind. Furthermore he served as vice president of sales and operations of a startup company.
Guerin has instilled fans with hope of playoff hockey with his bold trade moves as general manager for the Wild, becoming widely-recognized within hockey circles for his team-first philosophy and close relationships with his players.
Cassandra Rendon and Angie Erdrich, Geisel students who both share an affinity for primary care careers serving Native Americans, credit Guerin with serving as their inspiration. Both now work in the Twin Cities with Erdrich serving Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota through her federally qualified health center.
Professional Career
Guerin currently serves as general manager of the Minnesota Wild and holds two Stanley Cup championships with Pittsburgh Penguins during 18 seasons in the NHL – an achievement he won as part of their coaching staff. He was honored to become a member of Hockey Hall of Fame.
Brackett has played an instrumental role in turning the Minnesota Wild into one of the premier prospect pools in the league, through his expert trades and precision draft selection. Their efforts have put this team on course for continued success into the future.

Achievement and Honors
Guerin achieved success as a professional hockey player during his time with both the New Jersey Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins, winning two Stanley Cup Championships each with each. Additionally, he helped win both a World Cup of Hockey with Team USA (1996) as well as being awarded silver at Salt Lake City Olympic in 2002.
He has had extensive acting, radio and club disc jockey experience in Ireland as well as having played the real-life hero in James Cameron’s Titanic movie.
On September 7, 2010, Guerin received a training camp try-out invite with the Philadelphia Flyers but was cut prior to even starting the season. On October 4, Ray Shero of the Pittsburgh Penguins decided not to offer Guerin a contract for 2010-11 season.
Personal Life
Wild GM Paul Guerin grew up watching his father and brother play hockey, while John Guerin now serves as Director of Business Development for Tangent Energy Solutions distributing AMP software to significant energy consumers such as schools, industrial clients and municipal electric organizations.
Liam places high value on his family’s education. Kayla graduated with a Master’s degree from Durham University, while both Kara and Liam themselves have two additional children who excel scholastically.
His daughter Lexi is currently attending Arizona State University as a freshman, playing women’s lacrosse for the Sun Devils and also participating in 21 games so far in her NAHL career with New Mexico Ice Wolves (2021-22). Liam is proud of all of Lexi’s achievements both on and off the ice.
