Minnesota Golden Gophers Receive Verbal Commitment From Lucas Finnessy
Head coach P.J. Fleck received another pledge from across state lines when Lucas Finnessy of Sussex, Wisconsin committed to play for Minnesota Gophers in 2022. Finnessy is 6-foot-3 and 225-pound outside linebacker who hails approximately 23 miles outside Milwaukee.
Jefferies and LeCaptain have been listed as being out, while Hayden Schwartz and Jackson Ruschmeyer remain uncertain at best. Finnessy will likely make an appearance.
Early Life and Education
Lucas Finnessy hails from Sussex, Wisconsin where he attended Hamilton High School where he excelled as an outside linebacker, cornerback, running back and fullback player as well as two-time Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State selection. Lucas committed to Minnesota for 2020 as a three-star recruit and immediately contributed to their defense with his size and athleticism making him an ideal fit – becoming head coach P.J. Fleck’s seventh recruit to commit under him.

Lucas Finnessy is an American football linebacker currently playing for the Minnesota Golden Gophers of NCAA Football and previously with Chicago Bears of NFL Football.
Finnessy, from Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wisconsin. At 6’3″, 225 pounds he was recruited by P.J. Fleck and his staff of Minnesota Gophers as a three-star outside linebacker.
He is an adaptable college player, capable of filling multiple positions. As a strong-side outside linebacker he can cover a lot of ground while also dropping back into coverage to cover receivers, or acting as fullback/wide receiver during high school (he earned two-time All-State recognition). 247 Sports considers him one of their top-30 outside linebacker prospects.

Finnessy excels at both football and basketball, and is also an outstanding student, boasting a GPA of 96. He aspires to help others, serving his community through charitable projects like organizing shoe drives to benefit Soles for Jesus.
