Considering the number of traffic and pedestrian collisions rife throughout the Emerald Coast, it’s a wonder we don’t see more fatalities. In fact, in the past two years alone, at least one person has died in an Okaloosa County traffic accident. The most common cause of death is motor vehicle accidents, which accounts for more than half of the fatalities. In a recent survey of Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies, nearly half of the responding deputies reported seeing multiple fatalities. As a result, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has created a special investigation unit to handle these cases. The department has also instituted a traffic and pedestrian safety policy, which consists of a number of initiatives including a “No Drunk Driving” policy, and a “Drive Safe” campaign.

Donna Sellers

Earlier this week, a truck accident killed an 81-year-old woman and injured an 8-year-old boy in Okaloosa County. The woman, Donna M. Curley of Wilmer, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s Jeep was attempting to re-enter the road when it went onto the east shoulder, where it was engulfed in a tree. She tried to overcompensate for her error, but was unable to do so. Her vehicle was struck by another car, and the driver was killed.

The driver of the pickup truck was a 40-year-old man from Ocala, Florida. He was driving in the right lane of SR 35, and failed to stop in time to avoid the crash. The truck impacted a Honda passenger van that was traveling northbound on FM 493.

The passenger vehicle was occupied by three children. Investigators are still trying to figure out the conditions of the other driver, but the last known location is in Okaloosa County.

As of press time, no one had yet been able to determine why the two women were missing or what exactly led to their disappearances. The two were reportedly traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 and towing a trailer. It is not yet clear what caused the accident.

The ladies are believed to be in Okaloosa County and were last seen driving a red Kia Sportage on October 11. The two women were not alone. Linda and Kevin also reportedly killed a 64-year-old man and injured three others, including one child, in the crash. Linda and Kevin were on their way to visit friends and family in Milton, Florida. This was not the first time the duo has driven on Florida’s interstate system.

A passerby alerted the police to an object of interest along I-10 at approximately 7:50 AM. The sheriff’s office has not yet announced the identity of the missing women, but has confirmed that the occupants of the vehicle are two women, one male, and one male adult.
