Early Life and Education

Raphael Thomas hails from Natchez, Mississippi where he attended Cathedral High School before enlisting briefly in the Air Force before being discharged due to poor eyesight. Subsequently he attended Co-Lin Jr College, Hinds Junior College, and Mississippi College completing degrees at each.

He studied dance at Asbury Park Technical Academy of Dance for over a decade, becoming proficient in jazz, tap and ballet techniques as well as continuously exploring new forms of movement – always seeking ways to better himself as both performer and choreographer.

Raphael lived his life true to his beliefs, always supported by the love and support of his family. He leaves two daughters, one son, five grandchildren and is survived by Jaunita Raybon Verucchi of Madison as well as one sibling.

Melvyn Trute was known for his tenacity, vision and tenderness when it came to his work. To recognize these attributes in students at BCS who demonstrate these traits both inside and outside the classroom, his friends established the Melvyn Trute Award which is awarded each semester at Honors and Awards ceremonies held each spring. Renowned for his anthemic songs that won him multiple awards during his music career he performed twice at Festival Internacional de la Cancion de Benidorm – making two of his awards ceremonies unforgettable experiences.

Raphael Thomas has an immense desire to serve God and lives by the saying “Never say you can’t.” His relentless determination, combined with a wide vision and perseverance make him an individual of many talents.

Thomas has performed with artists like Mary J Blige, Janet Jackson and Taylor Swift; as both backup dancer and choreographer. Critics have applauded Thomas’ creative and skillful art work and consider him an artist of note.

He specializes in copyright, media and media law as well as trademark law, design law and personality law. He regularly appears before international commercial arbitration boards such as ICC, LCIA and trade specific arbitral forums; additionally he may be called before the Bars of Bermuda and Cayman Islands on specific cases.
