In 1921, The Salvation Army purchased land near Silver Lake in Ramsey County with one goal in mind – both charitable and practical: providing children an experience of nature away from urban 20th-century America’s crowded tenement streets and industrial waste.
But the idyllic natural beauty of the camp could not last indefinitely; suburban expansion from Twin Cities began to gradually replace farm fields around it with modern homes.
