Thomas Patrick Prohaska of Pinconning, Michigan passed away peacefully at McLaren Bay City from complications of heart disease on Sunday, July 21st. A lifelong resident, Thomas attended Standish-Sterling High School before attending both Lawrence State and Saginaw Valley State Universities for his studies before being an active member at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church and retiring from Northern Tube in Pinconning where he also held several elected union positions within UAW Local #1134.
His expertise ranged from elemental and isotopic analysis using mass spectrometry, chemical imaging techniques and metrology with over 150 peer reviewed publications to serving at several institutes; including membership of the Autrian Academy of Sciences as well as being Curetnly Secretarary of IUPAC Commission on Isotopic Abundances and Atomic Weights.
Thomas Prohaska started his artistic career as a fine art printmaker and co-founder of two Portland print shops – Inkling Studio and Atelier Mars. For 29 years he taught at Portland’s Pacific Northwest College of Art and was instrumental in shaping Portland’s artist-driven culture.
Prof. Giesbrecht holds an appointment as professor at Montanuniversitat Leoben in Austria where he studies technical chemistry with particular attention paid to elemental trace analysis and isotope ratio analysis. Furthermore, he admitted not being familiar with standard procedures for Cotrel-Dubousset implants and thus could not comprehend why removing these screws might be necessary.
