The Call Me by Your Name star is the first solo male cover star to appear in British Vogue’s 106-year-old publication. Styled by Edward Enninful, the 26-year-old wears a pearl necklace on the cover of this month’s issue, which hits newsstands September 2022.
He has been in the public eye since starring in 2017’s Call Me by Your Name, which earned him an Oscar nomination and was directed by Luca Guadagnino. He has a number of upcoming films, including a musical about the life of Willy Wonka and a biopic about Bob Dylan in 2020.
When he’s not filming, Chalamet is enjoying the warm weather in New York City. He’s also keeping busy with a range of music projects.
Chalamet is currently working on the second installment of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and is excited about his upcoming role in the Willy Wonka prequel, which is set to release in 2023. He says he hopes to continue pursuing his love for music and acting.
The actor has always embraced fashion and has made a point of showing his appreciation for it in his personal style. He cites fashion photographers such as Steven Meisel and Denis Villeneuve as influences and likes the way it challenges stereotypes.
It was an exciting experience to work with a brand such as Vogue, he tells VOGUE China, and the process began back in April. The magazine’s team spent months putting the cover together, working around two of the most hotly-anticipated film premieres this year: The French Dispatch in Cannes and DUNE in Venice.
The result is a fusion between striking, sci-fi-inspired pieces and real-life style. This is a true sign that the search for authentic personas goes beyond screens and shows, and that fashion can play an important role in that process.
