Early Life and Education
Washburn began his career working with the Rockefeller Foundation in West Indies and Central America to plan campaigns to eradicate hookworm, malaria, tuberculosis and yaws. When he returned to North Carolina he served as district health officer and served on his county Selective Service board.
Kimball moved with his family to Mesa, Arizona in 2000 where he started and expanded his own masonry contracting business. To provide for the growing needs of his family he attended law school part-time while continuing as a masonry contractor part-time.
Washburn has served on the Pinal County Superior Court since 2010, as well as being actively engaged with his community by serving on both Superstition Area Land Trust and East Valley Adult Resources committees, being a former trustee for Boy Scouts of America, and certified foster parent.
Professional Career
John Washburn has been an outstanding law enforcement officer for eight years and is known for his great attitude and work ethic. Always willing to lend a helping hand – even when that means going above and beyond his duties – John is also knowledgeable within the department, including writing search warrants!
As his first passion, information technology was the focus of his early professional endeavors. He spent nearly 10 years as a programmer, writer and project manager in the software industry before graduating top of class from law school at Washburn University.

Dan Washburn, former executive director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association was honored with induction into the National Federation of State High School Associations’ National Hall of Fame this July. Washburn became only the eighth Alabaman honored thus far – joining Cliff Harper (1987), Dan Gaylord (1988), Bart Starr (1989), Herman L. “Bubba” Scott (1990), Wallace “Mickey” O’Brien (deceased), Glenn Daniel (1999) and Sam Short (2007) as previous honorees.
Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas recognized nearly 600 students on its President’s List for spring semester 2018, which recognizes those who earned at least 12 hours graded credit with an overall grade point average of 4.0 or better and who achieved academic excellence to qualify. Making this prestigious list demonstrates academic achievement as well as opens doors to career and scholarship opportunities for these exceptional students.
Personal Life
Washburn is an engaged member of his community, serving on the boards of Superstition Area Land Trust and East Valley Adult Resources. Additionally, his interest lies with early Roman history as it relates to Christianity and their interactions with Roman government; he has written multiple books on this subject such as Religion and Exile in Later Roman Empire (284-476 CE).
He and his wife are involved with their local church as elders, and enjoy serving on its board of trustees in their spare time. Additionally, he enjoys playing golf and watching baseball.
